Founded in 1996, Vena Cava Productions is Queensland University of Technology's student-led theatre company, dedicated to fostering the next generation of creative talent. We provide hands-on opportunities for emerging artists to develop their skills in writing, design, directing, production, and performance. Through bold storytelling and innovative theatre-making, we champion new voices and experimental works that challenge perspectives and ignite conversation. Whether on stage or behind the scenes, Vena Cava Productions is a platform for students to gain real-world experience, gain life-long connections, and create unforgettable performances.

With two mind-bending MainHouse productions lined up, we’ll explore the darkest corners of existence, the search for meaning, and the journey to self-acceptance. These productions promise to captivate, challenge, and leave audiences with fresh perspectives and unforgettable experiences they will be talking about for years to come.
But that’s not all! This year, we’re excited to bring back the beloved Freshblood Festival! A celebration of emerging QUT talent, Freshblood invites aspiring writers and directors to step into the spotlight, collaborating with up-and-coming performers to produce original, thought-provoking works. It’s the perfect launchpad for the next wave of theatrical voices.
Beyond the stage, Vena Cava Productions is committed to helping students gain hands-on, professional experience and knowledge through a range of workshops during our 2025 season. Everything from independent theatre basics to technical production masterclasses, helmed by QUT alumni and industry professionals.
